Are you and your dog ready for warmer weather? As summer approaches, you will want to make sure your pup is groomed and ready to play outside. Always have plenty of water for both you and your dog when heading out for adventure. Don’t forget to bring some interactive dog toys to keep your best friend active and healthy. To help you prepare for this beautiful time of year, the team at Volunteer Veterinary Hospital developed a list of durable toys that will last all summer:

Project Hive Pet Company Ball Dog Toy

This “ball” isn’t a traditional shape so it bounces unpredictably, leaving your dog darting about on a wild chase for it. Marketed as a durable toy, this ball is BPA-free, latex-free, and phthalates-free. Cool your dog down in the summer heat by throwing this ball in the water (it floats!). This ball is also dishwasher safe for when the mud bakes on and your pooch drops it in your lap.

Chuckit Flying Squirrel

Frisbee meets toy squirrel; your dog will be excited to run for this one. Is it too hot during the day to play? No worries, this multi-layered, durable and rugged fabric squirrel has four glowing paws, so it can be used when it is cooler at night. This toy can be launched into the air for your dog to chase or thrown into a lake as a fun water toy.

KONG Classic Flyer Dog Toy

A classic toy for any dog, this frisbee is made with Kong durable rubber, so it’s sure to last the season. This toy, though tough, is also soft and flexible to make it more enjoyable for your dog to carry. The flyer comes in various sizes and colors, just like your best dog friends!

Nerf Dog Feeder Football Dog Toy

Combine snack and play time with this treat (or kibble) feeder toy. This Nerf toy is highly durable and able to withstand the toughest chews. Some trainers and vets recommend feeding your dog this way if they’re a faster eater and could use some extra stimulation. Don’t worry about ruining this toy with wet dog food–it’s dishwasher safe.

Chuckit Ball Launcher

Another classic in dog-toy world, the chuckit ball launcher will save your arm from the 100th time you have to throw Arnie’s favorite tennis ball. You can replace balls as they get lost, ruined, or chewed apart. Be careful flashing it around your dog, as they will jump for joy when they see it.

Whatever toy you choose for your dog, make sure to discard it once it does become destroyed or torn apart into pieces. It can be harmful for your dog if pieces of foreign objects are ingested. If you suspect your dog has ingested a foreign object, please contact us right away.
